Frequently asked questions
Here's a list of some questions our clients asks. If you have a specific question or concern, please feel free to contact us.
Why should I go dustless?
The advantages of our solution speak for themselves: you have no dust, no cleaning up, an absence of harmful irritants, no loss of time through extensive site protection, and of course a better finish on your floors. We provide the best option for a cleaner and healthier home!
So there is some dust?
Yes. Although most (more than 98%) of dust is collected by our machines, this will never be 100% efficient. As such we request that you remove any items that may be negatively affected by the dust, especially electrical and electronic equipment.
Is the process noisy?
Preparation tasks, such as knocking in of nails, sanding etc., are extremely noisy. Also, the machines we utilize are industrial-strength, and generate far more noise than standard DIY power tools: our operators are required to wear hearing protection while working the machines. However, once this preparation is complete, the application of the varnish finish in relatively quiet.
How long will sanding take?
The process takes at least one full day. Bigger areas or multiple rooms could take up to several days. The area to be sanded will be out of bounds for the duration of the process, and should be kept traffic-free. The details of this will be discussed with you during your free consultation.
Can I choose a different colour for my floor?
Yes! Our selection of stain hues allows you to change the colour of your floors. At the beginning of the process, we will test samples on your flooring, allowing you to preview colours and choose yours.
Do I need to move the furniture?
To ensure the smooth running of the process, the area should be cleared of all furniture, and should remain clear for a full 36 hours after the final varnishing, to ensure the finish dries and sets to full strength. However, our workmen will assist with any moving of furniture that maybe required.
When can I return the room/s to normal?
To prevent disturbing the fresh varnish, we suggest you refrain from using the floor or returning furniture to it for at least 36 hours. Even lightweight items like rugs will need to be kept off the floor to allow proper curing of the urethane.
Will you remove our carpets?
Yes, removal of carpeting, pad and tack strips is included in the quoted price.
My floor has black spots under the carpet? What causes them, and can they be removed?
Black spots occur for a number of different reasons: water damage due to leaks or spills, or often pet stains, which leave ammonia burns on the surface. We attempt to sand out any black spots; if they persist we will replace damaged boards at an extra cost to you.
I have boards missing from or damaged. Can these be replaced/repaired?
Yes! Most floorboards can be replaced or repaired, although the difficulty of repair jobs varied with each individual floor. Repairs to remedy dented or broken boards, and areas that require minor patching through spliced-in pieces are common, and can be accommodated. More complex repairs will need to be discussed with you in detail.
